Jim Rohn said that success is 80% strategy and 20% skill. Many people possess outstanding skills but they don't achieve much because they are working harder then smarter.
Skills are tools to help us achieve and it answers the question that begins with ''HOW?'' to get the job done.
Strategy on the other hand focuses on ''WHY?'' we're doing whatever we're doing.
Skill is an instrument of strategy.Skill determine how we do it but strategy decides how effective we're doing it.
If we want to maximize our effectiveness and achieve much beyond our current limitations we need to work on our strategy/approach when tackling new or existing challenges in the workplace since it is strategy.
to start with :
1)Identify the real issue.
Think about what you're trying to achieve in terms of your available resources(time, budget, contacts, etc)
2)Try to figure out how to best utilize those resources
given time line boundaries and Keeping in mind the big picture find out how to maximize benefits of what you have(team members, budget, contacts, etc) with minimum effort.
3)Take action.
At this point everyone on the team must have clear understanding of his role in the light of the big picutre and how it fits within the team.
4)Follow through.
From time to time you need to check and evaluate the performance of the team in light of results but don't over do it just give them enough space to be proactive and focus on results not actions.
5)Be flexible
Don't forget the "WHY" or purpose and keep your focus on that while being flexible in your approach.
