There is nothing such as perfect presentation, presentations are as good as their effectiveness in delivering the content to the audience. I've written this blog for engineers, doctors, and professionals in general.
-Who is your audience?
Knowing your audience's background and experience is the 1st key to preparing the content of your presentation to suit their mentalities and expertise of the subject.
-What is expected to happen at the end of the presentation?
writing the goals of your presentation and what is expected to happen by the end of it is How most of the time you should begin your presentation since it helps your audience be attentive and focused on what your going to say next and again it depends so let's say your presenting technical stuff to your manager at work who doesn't know much about technical stuff so in this case you might want to begin with a brief introduction or background about the subject your presenting.
-Know your Stuff!
How can you talk about something that you don't know much about, this might put you in a tight situation when trying to explain some points or answer the questions at the end of the presentation so to look sound as a professional you must have a thorough idea about.
-Don't Over-Explain!
It is a PRESENTATION Not an Explanation or conversation.
-Use visual aids (charts,stats,pictures,sketches)
As the old saying goes '' show don't tell'' ,visual aids are highly effective in communicating your idea and convincing but don't over do it since your not using them to show how beautiful your power point slides are but to prove a point.
-Watch the Clock!.
Normal human attention span does not exceed 20 minutes which after people begin to wonder so make sure your presentation doesn't exceed this duration.
-Conclusion.
After you finished talking about the points in your presentation it is crucial to make a closing.it can be about what is going to happen next in terms of actions or future projects based on what you presented.
-Any Questions?
Don't forget to tell your audience if they have any questions at the end of the presentation.
-Rehearse!,Rehearse!,Rehearse!
you will be surprised how well things go during the presentation if you practiced what your going to present.
-Even if you make mistakes no body will know!
Even if you make mistakes while giving the presentations no body will know that you made a mistake and in the larger scheme of things, who cares? not to mention that your getting better with each presentation you do.
